About the Book

Women Workers in the Hosiery Industry of Tamil Nadu: Social Status, Issues, and Challenges critically examines the working and living conditions of women employed in Tamil Nadu’s hosiery industry. It analyzes how gender, caste, informal labor arrangements, and globalization shape women’s social status, wages, job security, and access to welfare. Challenging the assumption that paid work guarantees empowerment, the book exposes persistent inequalities, health risks, and institutional gaps between labor laws and workplace realities. Designed for students, researchers, and policymakers, it offers a grounded sociological perspective on women’s labor in India’s informal manufacturing sector.
